Mr UNISWA talks about his ever busy life

He is the king of the
University of
Swaziland and will be representing UNISWA in the Mr Intervarsity contest this month in Lesotho.
He grew up in Mbabane at Checkers. His home area is Luve. He is now the face of Mookel Wear-a clothing line by designer Mukelwe Thwala.
This is 26-year-old Mr UNISWA Zama Dlamini.
He seems a bit shy at first but was quick to open up to Gcwala during an interview at Kwaluseni campus this week. Zama was one of the top five finalists during the Kwaluseni Mr Fresher’s contest who now lives in Matsapha.
Fun
"Taking part in the Fresher’s Ball was just for the experience and fun since I am a first-year student. I had not considered taking part in the contest. But Linda Matimba insisted that I give it a try after I had refused when he suggested it at first," says Zama.
"Never in my life had I done any modelling or took part in any pageant," he explained.
He described his best moment as the night he was crowned Mr UNISWA last week. "I never thought I would win and when I did Linda came to me and said; ‘you see’."
Now that he has been crowned king of the varsity he has noticed a slight change in the attention he gets from fellow colleagues on campus. "The number of greetings I get increase every day coupled with small talk like ‘that is Mr. UNISWA’," he told Gcwala.
Zama did his primary and high school education at St. Mark’s. Besides being a first-year Social Sciences student at the varsity, he is also employed by the Swazi-land Electricity Company (SEC), Matsapha branch, as a Radio-Telephone Operator Customer Services Officer. He holds a Diploma in Accounting as well from IDM.
Achievement
"Being crowned UNISWA king, is a great achievement. It means I have to be responsible in the things I do and lead by example," he says. Zama told Gcwala that should the opportunity avail itself he will no doubt take up any other pageant or do modelling because he enjoyed the experience.
"Though I am a very busy person as I have to juggle with my schoolwork on a full- time basis as well as my job at SEC which is in the form of shifts, I think I would consider that," he said. Zama also shared his take on women. Read on:
Gcwala: How best can you describe yourself?
Zama: I’m a very shy person, reserved and good at adapting to new situations. I so easily adapt to things that I had not even planned for. I do not have any ‘class’ but get along with everyone. Though I have people who may dislike me I like them and wish them a long life to see my successes.
Gcwala: Who do you think gave you tough competition during the Mr UNISWA contest?
Zama: It was some guy called Muzi. He would have the crowd screaming each time he took to the stage and I was the contestant after him. He has a muscular body and he made me nervous.
Gcwala: Now that you have been crowned Mr UNISWA, what do you promise during the Mr Intervarsity contest?
Zama: (Smiles) I will do my best to bring the crown home. That is my promise.
Gcwala: What attracts you to a woman?
Zama: I love a woman who is not skinny and not fat as well. She has to have a curvaceous figure - in hips, breasts, you know what I mean (laughs). Beauty doesn’t count much save to say she must not be bad looking either. A beautiful heart is what I look for. She must have a good personality too. Make-up is a huge turn off. I like my woman natural. I also hate attention seekers and fake chicks.
Gcwala: Do have any celebrity crush?
Zama: I love Nicki Minaj.
Gcwala: You say you are now the face of Mookel Wear clothing, are you into fashion?
Zama: No. I am not a fashion freak but have an eye for nice clothing.
Gcwala: How do you manage to keep a job and be a full-time student at the same time?
Zama: I work shifts at SEC. It’s a bit hectic and I hardly find time to do other stuff.
Gcwala: Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
Zama: I would be planning to get married. Also, I would have gotten my degree but still further my studies through distance learning.
Gcwala: Do you go to the gym to keep your body in shape or follow any special diet?
Zama: I am yet to start going to the gym but I do play soccer sometimes. I’m allergic to fish so I never ate it.
Gcwala: What would be your advice to the youth?
Zama: Life is about finding your talent, taking risks and making sacrifices. There was once a period in my life where I had nothing to do and I know that an idle mind is the devil’s nest.
