Sex warning for MPs
EZULWINI – Members of Parliament were yesterday strongly warned against engaging in unbec-oming sexual behaviour.
The MPs were sternly warned to stay away from love affairs that would dent the image of the August House and the country.
Issuing the admonition was Senate President Gelane Zwane together with Parliament Speaker Prince Guduza during an orientation workshop for legislators held at the Convention Centre.
More than 90 legislators from both houses of Parliament attended the orientation.
The legislators were strictly advised that should they engage in unruly sexual behaviour they were bound to be exposed by the media because members of the fourth estate were always on the lookout for such occurrences.
The MPs were reprimanded from having sexual relationships with youngsters, especially pupils and any other person who was below the consenting age of 16 years. They were also firmly told to avoid any intimate affairs with Parliament’s female staff members and this was mostly directed to the male legislators.
"Engaging in love affairs with female Parliament staff would lead to a situation where there is lack of respect towards you legislators once the relationship turns sour," the Senate president warned.
The MPs were further told to avoid sexual relations amongst themselves as that too could lead to trouble once the relationship hits the rocks.
Adding to that, female MPs were told to avoid wearing revealing clothes as that leads to their male colleagues being sexually aroused. Moreover, the legislators were cautioned against the nightlife of boozing and partying as that could lead to irresponsible sexual behaviour.
The MPs were reminded that they were now public figures and therefore should expect that their privacy would be invaded.
