MBABANE – Swaziland’s embassy in South Africa is not responding to the petitions by the Swaziland Solidarity Network (SSN).

The SSN will stage a picket tomorrow calling upon government to respond to some of their demands.

This will be the third picket in three weeks to be undertaken by the network following one held on October 14, 2008 calling upon the king to allow the Southern Africa Social Forum to proceed as planned.

The authorities were given seven days to respond to the memorandum. The next picket was a follow-up to the non-adherence of the seven-day period, which ended on October 24. According to the network’s Spokesperson Lucky Lukhele, the decision to wage another picket at the Swazi Consulate in Braamfontein Centre was resolved during the last demonstrations. Lukhele said this would be preceded by embarking on more widespread campaign including marching to the Pretoria Embassy.

"The picketers will submit an ultimatum regarding a response to our memorandum of demands," he said.

Most of the network’s demands hinge upon socio-political and economic issues.
