MALINDZA –  Bongani ‘S’gcokosiyancinca’ Dlamini, Mbhokane’s former co-host for the popular problem-solving ‘Khalamdumb-adumbane’ radio programme became so emotional that he could not say a word at the funeral.

Sgcokosiyancinca, who always referred to the late Gama as ‘Sibali’(brother–in-law) was expected to speak on behalf of the friends of the deceased.

However, he could not talk and instead asked former radio personality and Mkhiweni Member of Parliament (MP) Rodgers Mamba, to do so on his behalf.

Mamba told mourners that the death of Gama touched Dlamini so much that he asked to be excused from speaking.

"He asked me to send condolences to the Gama family. He was no longer a colleague but a father as whenever he had problems, Gama would advise him. He would come to his rescue at times when other people would not help,"

Mamba urged the Gamas to unite and learn to trust in God as he would see them through in this dark hour.

Mbhokane ‘gives’ instructions from the grave

MALINDZA – Jim Gama did not want soil thrown onto his tomb.

This is one of the things he had asked his family to make sure that it wouldn’t happen.

After his casket had been lowered into the grave, close members of his family were asked to throw soil onto his grave.

This is normally done by women.

However, July Gama an elder of the Gama family, told mourners that Gama had made it clear that he did not want soil on top of his casket.

July then instructed one of the relatives to get into the grave and remove all the soil that had already been thrown in.

The casket was then covered with a traditional sleeping mat (licansi) before the process of pouring the soil continued.

In the process, July made sure that all his brother’s instructions were carried out to the letter.

July later confirmed to this newspaper that Gama had left strict instructions which would be respected.

"The funeral went according to his wishes and we thank all those who came to support us," he said.
