GUNDVWINI – Prince Tfohlongwane, the erstwhile Chairman of Liqoqo, is now bedridden.

Liqoqo is an advisory council to His Majesty King Mswati III.

In an interview last week at one of his many homes at Ndlandlameni, Prince Tfohlongwane, 89, said he was immobilised by diabetes and high blood pressure immediately after the 2008 general elections.

He is a younger brother to the late Authorised Person Prince Sozisa – the father of the current Liqoqo Chairman Prince Logcogco.

"I’m bed-ridden most of the day," said the prince of his chronic condition. "I move around with the aid of a wheelchair."

His wife Inkhosikati LaSihlabela said the wheelchair was given to the ailing prince by Her Majesty the Indlovukazi about two years ago.

Evidently, Prince Tfohlongwane is now fragile, but he has not lost his speech as he exhibited an agile memory throughout the interview.

The chronic condition has rendered his right hand partly paralysed.

He speaks highly of Inkhosikati LaSihlabela, saying she always helps him, without showing any signs of discomfort.

The former Liqoqo Chairman conceded to be heavily indebted to LaSihlabela, hence was spending more time with her.

"She’s everything to me," confessed the prince.

"She takes good care of me without complaining and I feel very safe with her around me."

Prince Tfohlongwane said he was now on routine diabetes and high blood pressure medication.

He served as Liqoqo Chairman from 1996 to 2008.

Ironically, Prince Tfohlongwane, as Liqoqo Chairman, was succeeded by his nephew in Prince Mangaliso.

Prince Mangaliso assumed the name Prince Logcogco immediately after he was appointed Chief of Gundvwini in the Manzini region.

Both princes – the late Sozisa and Tfohlongwane are biological sons to Prince Logcogco

...away with political parties – Tfohlongwane

GUNDVWINI – "There is no room for political parties in the country."

This is the view of Prince Tfohlongwane, the former Chairman of Liqoqo – an advisory council to His Majesty King Mswati III.

The bed-ridden prince, in an interview last week, stressed that Swaziland was too a small country with a small populace as well to be governed by a multi-party system.

He harboured the thought that political parties would bring what he described as anarchy, saying the kingdom is respected globally for its peace and tranquillity.

The prince said a multi-party system would cause not only division among the citizens, but turmoil thus rendering the country ungovernable.

He said: "We’re all Swazis and speak one language. It is for this reason that I think political parties were not meant for us. Maybe, I would understand if the country was littered with ethnic groups."

A political party, according to Prince Tfohlongwane, is something foreign to a majority of Swazis.

He called upon all citizens not be polluted by neighbouring South Africans by making a habit of often taking to the streets.

"In our culture, there’s nothing like toyi-toy, but we always engage each other on the table to address arising matters," he stated.

The prince said the King should not budge and unban political parties (Okandaba akayicitse lentfo lena ayikalungi nani).

‘King sent me to introduce Polycarp’

NGCULWINI – Former Liqoqo Chairman Prince Tfohlongwane has said His Majesty King Mswati III sent him to introduce Polycarp Dlamini only as a senior prince of Moneni and not a chief.

Interviewed last week, the ailing prince repeatedly said he was ordered by the King to officially announce that Polycarp, the erstwhile Central Transport Administration General Manager, was the rightful successor to Prince Mshoshi.

"When making the announcement to the people of Moneni, I even told them that he would now be known as Prince Mshoshi II," he stated.

He said he was accompanied by Indvuna Dibanisa Mavuso, adding that others who were present comprised Prince Matatazela (Chief Nhlambeni and a resident of Moneni) and Manzini Regional Administrator Prince Masitsela.

Introduce

His Majesty, according to the prince, sent him to introduce Polycarp as umntfwanenkhosi lomkhulu (senior prince) we Moneni by virtue of being chairman of the advisory council.

"I don’t recall the day and time when the King instructed me to introduce Polycarp as a chief of Moneni," Prince Tfohlongwane said.

He registered his disappointment that the Ludzidzini Council had to intervene in the fierce chieftaincy dispute between Polycarp and Chief Nkamane Mkhatshwa of eLwandle Chiefdom.

In February this year, the Ludzidzini Council, chaired by acting Governor Timothy Velabo Mtetwa, made a ruling that Moneni was under the Lwandle Chiefdom.

In a recent interview, Polycarp said he had already accepted that he was not a chief, but senior prince of Moneni.

He, however, vowed not to pay allegiance to Chief Nkamane.

The retired CTA chief said he would build his own royal kraal at Moneni – a place situated on the outskirts of Manzini.

: PREPAID WATER METERS
Do you think prepaid water meters will serve EWSC clients better than the current billing system?
