HEREFORDS – It has transpired that Lindelwa Mafa, the popular radio announcer at the Swaziland Broadcasting and Information Services, is a Dlamini.

The revelation was confirmed by Mafa Dlamini, her biological father, in an interview yesterday.

"Lindelwa is my biological daughter and it follows that she’s a Dlamini," stressed Dlamini. "I’m not sure why she elected to go by the surname Mafa. But I’m definitely sure that Mafa is my name and not a family surname."

He said, presumably, she fancied the name Mafa, hence she chose it as a surname.

"Personally, I don’t take it seriously that she calls herself Mafa mainly because I know for a fact that’s not a family surname," the 56-year-old retired squash player stated.

Lindelwa, in a separate interview yesterday, confirmed that her biological surname was Dlamini.

"Biologically, I’m a Dlamini and there’s nothing sinister with me going by the surname Mafa," she said in a cooperative fashion. "I’ve been using this surname (Mafa) since my high school days."

Lindelwa, at SBIS, holds the post of Assistant Senior Programmes Officer.

Phesheya Dube, the long-serving Principal Programmes Officer at SBIS, had this to say: "Lindelwa is a Dlamini, but calls herself Mafa and I don’t know the reason behind all this. We always encourage our employees to maintain their biological surnames."

"Mafa is nothing else, but just a brand name," remarked Lindelwa.

Lindelwa said she chose to go by the surname Mafa to honour her father.

She did not dispute that she was born a Dlamini, but emphasised that she thought it would be proper for her to ‘use my father’s name as a surname’.

"Apart from a brand name, I just wanted to honour my father," she reiterated. She further stated: "That I’m a Dlamini remains a fact and that’s documented."

Dube, said: "Maybe Mafa is just a stage name. Sometimes one can have such a nickname."

She is married to a Dlamini

MBABANE – Lindelwa Dlamini, the radio personality, shares the same surname with her husband.

In an interview yesterday, a confident Lindelwa said she was not the first one in the country to be married to a man with a similar surname.

She, however, elected to play her cards close to her chest in as far as revealing the identities of the married ‘brothers and sisters’.

"I can safely tell you that I’m happily married to a Dlamini guy and I doubt it if it’s a crime," she boldly stated. "My husband is aware that we share the same surname and he has no problem with it. We get along very well. I must say that we’re comfortable with everything."

Lindelwa said she saw nothing wrong with her decision to walk down the aisle with her husband saying the marriage officer would have objected to the nuptials.

She said: "We’ve been together for 10 years and married for eight years," she stressed. "The marriage has been blessed with two children (boy and girl)".

Lindelwa said she tied the knot in 2005.

Mafa Dlamini, Lindelwa’s biological father who hails from Herefords in the northern Hhohho region, said he was not aware that her daughter was married.

"As a father, I did not sanction any marriage," he said.

It’s a taboo to marry same surname, says Tv

MBABANE – Timothy Velabo Mtetwa, the acting Ludzidzini Governor, said it was taboo for people of the same surname to exchange vows.

Mtetwa, in an interview yesterday, said it was unheard of for what he described as brothers and sisters to be involved intimately.

"Culturally, it is grossly wrong and unheard of for people who share the same surname to get married," observed the acting traditional prime minister. "In our culture, it’s a crime to marry your brother or sister (kuganga loku)."

TV, TV colela Lindelwa! It's a pity the news in Swaziland is one sided. Lindelwa is doing the right thing as this is done by many in the land. Kahleni kusidlisa luhlata.

On my own i dont see it as a crime coz the two Dlamini's did not invite each other if they have a ceremony which means they dont know each other they are not related it just that they share the same surname

I do not understand how this matter is national news. I do appreciate the fact that Lindelwa is a public figure, but this is just prying into her personal affairs. She made her choices and is happy with them manje tsine singenaphi? I see nothing wrong with the choices she made and let us remember there’s only one judge between man and God. We can sight culture etc but leyo culture is in itself contradictory but I wouldn’t want to bring it up here. Please give us news that will be of benefit to us dear reporters.

The Dlaminis are a threat to our culture* they are the most wrongdoers in the country when it comes 2 marriage

I personally dont think it matters whether people of the same surnames marry each other, so long as they love each other. Which one is better to marry somebody with a different surname and be unhappy or marry someone with the same surname and be happy? You be the judge.I think its up to the two people to decide not us. All the best in your marriage. But even the Dlaminis are too many you are not the only ones he he he !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. (ONLY GOD WHO JUDGES) ...Ngubhalwephi kutsi kufanele sitibongo tingafanani (Its just culture).

: PREPAID WATER METERS
Do you think prepaid water meters will serve EWSC clients better than the current billing system?
