MBABANE – The Facebook trend that has swept across the country has seen Swaziland amass 63 700 registered mobile users.

And among the highlights of the survey is that the Swazi Facebook members grew by more than 16 040 in the last six months.

Last week there was a huge outcry from zero Facebook users when Swazi MTN announced that they would now be charging people for logging on to the site.

Some people said they would quit the site in favour of other social networks or applications like Whatsapp and BlackBerry Messenger for Blackberry users, while others said they would revert to MXit which was the popular social networking site in the country before the Facebook craze hit town.

Many local personalities have confessed to having over 4 000 registered ‘friends’ on their lists.

A company called Socialbakers which is a global social media and digital analytics company has done an analysis of countries using Facebook. It states that the logic is that Facebook monitoring helps to improve business and social media marketing strategy in every country. Currently, there are 63 720 Facebook users in the Swaziland, which makes it #158 in the ranking of all Facebook statistics by Country.

Currently, Socialbakers has customers in 75 countries representing every continent. Social-bakers helps companies measure the effectiveness of their social marketing campaigns across all major networks, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn and Google+.

Solution

With its easy-to-use Engagement Analytics and Engagement Builder, Socialbakers is reportedly the only solution that allows numerous brands to measure, compare, and contrast the success of their social media campaigns with competitive intelligence.

Socialbakers also offers a monitoring service that has become the most widely visited site for Facebook statistics and brand metrics since its launch in 2008. Socialbakers.com is the most cited source for global Facebook data with over 10 million Facebook pages and places indexed. Socialbakers is the recipient of the Red Herring 100 Europe 2011 Award.

The social networking statistics show that Facebook penetration in Swaziland is 4.71% compared to the country’s population and 70.80% in relation to the number of Internet users.

Comparing these nearest countries by penetration of Facebook users shows that Swaziland has 0.01 per cent higher FB penetration than The Gambia and 0.04 per cent lower FB penetration than Senegal.
