HOW SWAZIMED WITHHELD E10M DUE TO THE CLINIC GROUP
MBABANE – SwaziMed withheld due payments valued at E10 million to The Clinic Group for more than two months.
The company allegedly also issued erroneous statements to the effect that payments had been made.
This has been revealed in court papers where The Clinic Group (Pty) Ltd has taken Swaziland Medical Aid Fund (SwaziMed) for allegedly refusing to pay for its members’ admission into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) facilities operated by the group.
withheld
In his founding affidavit, Dr Mark Mills, who is the director of The Clinic Group, claimed that SwaziMed (respondent) withheld payment of in-patient and out-patient hospital accounts from August to mid November, 2017.
“This was in spite of the fact that SwaziMed had accessed the claims and produced a remittance advice that could be viewed by the applicant (The Clinic Group),” averred Dr Mills in the affidavit containing allegations whose veracity is yet to be tested by the courts.
He went on to allege that SwaziMed sent statements erroneously informing the members that their accounts had been paid.
resolve
According to Dr Mills, in an attempt to resolve the impasse, the applicant sought mediation in the matter from the Federation of Swaziland Employers and Chamber of Commerce (FSE&CC), of which both parties are members.
mediation
He submitted that the mediation took place on October 12 and 31 last year.
Dr Mills pointed out that again a demand was made by the respondent that the applicant desists from collecting the shortfall of payments from the members and right off these shortfalls.
