THE DAY I WEPT FOR REX TILLERSON
It takes something very heavy for me to breakdown in tears. Even personal attacks never cause me to weep. However, seeing gross injustices being perpetrated or done to some people make me weep quickly.
Such was the situation when the outgoing Secretary of State for the United States of America was bidding farewell to his team after having been grossly and unfairly dismissed by his moron boss - President Donald Trump, a man who knows no shame!
I have always loved the United States of America; first, for its history and the establishment of key human values such as those enshrined in the national Constitution. According to the US Constitution, all people are born equal and therefore all deserve justice.
I learnt this in history which I was taught by my late teacher who later became my friend. This is Mr. Justice Nsibande. He was so good at teaching the subject and he made it relevant to the pupils.
Later on, the American Consulate in Mbabane granted me a scholarship to study Law at Harvard Business School but evil faceless cabals who were members of Imbokodvo National Movement blocked this initiative.
my roles in business
However, because of my roles in business, I have found the American ambassadors to be very welcoming but frankly speaking people - hence my continued respect for them.
Having said that, outgoing Secretary of State Tillerson captured my mind from the very first time he took up his office in 2017.
From the word go, his mission was clear and it was to keep the image of the American nation. Struggling against his childish president, he maintained the dignity his country deserved and not worrying about the crazy messages his boss kept on spewing out at every stage he had a chance to address the Americans.
visit the continent
In his very last mission away from his office, he chose to visit the continent Trump had called an ‘s..t hole’ continent - our African continent.
His visit to Kenya had greatly helped to heal the wounds which had long affected the politics of that great country which is characterised by tribalism and rigged national elections infavour of the Kikuyu Tribe.
Due to that, we have seen key politicians from the third largest tribe of the Luos being sidelined. Remember, former US President Barrack Obama’s father was born from this tribe. This has been one of the characteristics of Kenyan politics since independence.
The political conflicts began right at independence when President Kenyatta did not respect the leader of the opposition, the late Oginga Odinga - father to the current leader of the opposition whose victory (as we have seen this week from the leaks from FaceBook) was stolen by those who stole Hillary Clinton’s victory and gave it to Trump. Yes! Elections are being rigged these days.
However, Tillerson assisted in trying to get the two leaders find peace, first among themselves and then among the nation itself in the long-term. The most important achievement of Tillerson in Africa was to heal the wounds among the African people with total disregard to his moron president’s attack on our continent without any provocation.
In fact, proof that Trump couldn’t care less about Africa is seen in his latest introduction of tax on steel imports which excluded African countries from those that will to be exempted.
