SCA AGM CALLED OFF

MANZINI – Members of the Swaziland Contractors Association (SCA) failed to see eye to eye with the executive committee and as a result, elections were postponed.

This unfolded during the SCA Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was held at The George Hotel yesterday.
During the meeting, the executive committee was supposed to deliver a report to the general membership. However, this process was stopped as the members wanted the executive committee out of office.

On that note, the executive committee members argued that the members could not just chuck them out of office without following the law.
After a lengthy process that saw the meeting being adjourned for up to 30 minutes as the 10 member executive committee sought legal advice, the meeting eventually agreed that a six member sub-committee should be elected so that they could work with the executive committee in amending the association’s constitution and also look into their election’s policy.

Attorney Lucky Howe, who rendered his services at no cost, advised that it would be folly to continue with the election of a new board of directors on the basis that the committee did not form a quorum as per dictates of the association’s constitution.

In terms of the constitution, there ought to have been at least 170 members for the elections to proceed. However, there were only 126 in attendance yesterday. The association has a total of 535 members.     
The meeting ended up electing seven members and appointed Reuben Msibi from Roots Construction to be the sub-committee’s chairman.
It was agreed that the committees should be ready to present the amended constitution and election’s policy in their meeting, which is slated for August 11, 2018. So far the proposed venue for the meeting is Manzini Club.

Again, it was agreed that after presentation, they would conduct the elections for a new executive committee.
