14 TAIWAN COMPANIES FOR ESWATINI

MBABANE – If this materialises, for sure there is some light at the end of the tunnel.
After struggling with the high unemployment rate in the country, 14 Taiwanese companies were in the country last week to explore business opportunities.
The unemployment rate stands at 41 per cent, according to the Central Statistical Office.
It has been learnt that companies from the Republic of China on Taiwan, which were in the country included but not limited to Easywell Water Systems, Allen Plastic Industries, Ho Yu Textile, Dalebro Ltd and T & R International Corporation.
They held a meeting with their local stakeholders at Royal Swazi Spa Hotel on February 28, 2019. Before visiting the country to explore the investment and market opportunities, the Taiwanese companies had done the same in Ethiopia, Kenya and South Africa.
The meeting with the private sector was facilitated by the Taiwan Trade Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. On the market side, there were 75 buyers from Eswatini who wanted to do business with the Taiwanese companies.
A statement from the Embassy of Taiwan to Eswatini indicates that the potential trade volume could be estimated to be E13 million.
The embassy said T&R International Corporation and Dalebro Ltd indicated that the Eswatini market and country profile was good for further market
These two companies are reported to have noted vigorous market vitality and the impressive strong will of local companies to develop domestic and international markets. They are prepared to help emaSwati realise this dream by penetrating the global market.
They said export earnings were vital for the economy.
Andrew Van Rensburg, the founder of one of the biggest logistics companies, called for Taiwan companies to set up manufacturing factories and warehouses in Eswatini.
He said Eswatini is a member of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU). He mentioned that the kingdom’s exports enjoyed tax free benefits among the bloc’s members. These are South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, and Namibia.
Graeme Rust, a Board member for a Taiwanese company styled Honey Wise, also expressed his wish to open up Taiwan and Asian market and import machineries of high quality from that country and sell them to Eswatini and near-by markets.
Minister in SA to meet them
Meanwhile, workaholic Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Mancoba Khumalo said he was in Johannesburg, South Africa, to discuss business logistics with the Taiwanese companies.
He said they invited him to make a presentation, and was hoping to continue with the talks on Monday in Eswatini. He said the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce was also present in Johannesburg where the business conference was held. “I am with them as you call me now. I will also meet them on Monday in Eswatini at 8:30 am,” the minister said.
Khumalo said their meeting in the kingdom with their counterparts was productive and would soon bear the desired fruits.
Andrew Le Roux, the President of Eswatini Business Community, commended the Embassy of Taiwan to Eswatini for the splendid job it was doing to bring investments to the country. “I would like to commend the embassy for being proactive in bringing investments to the country. They are extremely active, and this is commendable,” he said.
He also commended the minister of commerce for working hard to ensure job creation. Le Roux said he would also meet the businesspeople from Taiwan.
