NGWENYA TOWN BOARD RECORDS E6.1M REVENUE
MBABANE – The Ngwenya Town Board recorded E6 162 311 revenue during the year ended March 31, 2019.
This was recorded in the Treasurer’s Report presented in the annual general meeting (AGM) held on Monday, September 30, 2019. The financial performances report highlighted the Board’s performance in terms of revenue collected, expenditure incurred and the changes on the rates tariffs for the past financial year.
There was no capital improvement received under the Swaziland Local Government Project (SLGP) finance and none was received from the government capital improvement fund.
Government rates were 67 per cent and private rates were 21 per cent during the last financial year. It was further reported that 14 per cent of total revenue was spent on capital-related projects while 54 per cent was used to operate the office administration including maintenance of the town.
The report further stated that 27 per cent of the total revenue was spent on personnel emoluments. On the other hand, the report further stated that there were proposed and ongoing projects which include formulation of the Ngwenya Five Year Integrated Development Plan or strategic plan and implementation plan (September 2019), the construction of a low level bridge on the road leading to AMADI University College and the allocation of government plots.
Also in the pipeline, the Town Board reported that there was the transfer of Ngwenya Village cluster houses, the proposed establishment of a police post at the Ngwenya Village cluster houses, proposed layout for Nkhungu Township and the land for cemetery.
Furthermore, the Engineers Report revealed the Ngwenya Town Board through the World Bank funded SLGP, constructed a 450-metre long road at Ngwenya Village, which would service the new plots that shall soon be disposed. Also, the Board engaged Pots Construction Company for the construction of the 450-metre road and drainage system.
“The project commenced in September 2018 and it was completed in February 2019. The total cost of the project is E 2 721 405.05,” reads in part the report.
Also, the report reflected that the Ngwenya Town Board continued to clean storm water drains, maintain potholes for various roads within the urban area, and cut grass and overgrown trees along the main and secondary road reserves in an effort to keep the town clean at all times.
