PSYCHOLUTION ‘ARTIST OF THE YEAR’ NOMINEE IN SA

MBABANE – 2020 might just be an epic year for Eswatini-renowned rapper in diaspora Psycholution.

Barely a week after dropping a compilation titled ‘Kingdom XLR’, the rapper, real name Mzwandile Nxumalo, has been revealed as a City Awards Management nominee.

He has been nominated under the ‘Artist of the Year’ category and this was revealed on Monday.
City Awards Management is a chain of award shows across South Africa. They celebrate the achievements of individuals in 15 categories across the entertainment industry. They are dubbed 011 Awards in Johannesburg, South Africa where the rapper is based.

He confirmed with the Entertainment Desk that he was nominated in the stated awards.
“I was nominated through the work I have been doing artistically while in Johannesburg and that is from performances to rapping in cyphers in the city.
“I must have caught the attention of the 011 Awards authorities. I received an email letting me know that I have been nominated for the awards. Until today, I do not know how my nomination really happened besides my street credibility,” said the rapper.

Psycholution has contributed to the culture of Hip Hop in South Africa by participating in shows and cyphers like Slaghuis TV, Rep Your Hood, R1WRadio, Kitcheners and many others.
He has also been part of rap shows including Rap4Kicks, One Mic (SABC 1), VOW FM (Voice of Wits) and he hosted hip hop radio shows where he interviewed a wide spectrum of artists who include ANATII, Last Days Fam and K.O. on BMHRadio.

His music has been reviewed by blogs such as ‘Where Is The Beef?’ and ‘The Bubblegum Club’.
“These are few of the many things that I have done on the ground in Johannesburg as an artist and I believe these activities in the past year might have scored me the recognition as artist of the year nominee at the 011 Awards.”

This journalist could not compile the list of other artists that Psycholution will be competing with under the category by the time the publication went to print.
“I am highly grateful for this nomination. The only downside is that the voting is limited to South African numbers so I am merely encouraging the students from Eswatini who are going to school in South Africa to kindly vote as many times as they can SMS-ing ‘011 Psycholution’ to 35029. The SMS cost R3,” said the rapper.

SWAMA PRO Bongani ‘Thizalam’ Dube congratulated Psycholution on his nomination.
SWAMA is the acronym for Eswatini Arts and Music Association.
“We would like to send our congratulatory message and well wishes to one of Eswatini’s finest lyricists and firebrand rappers of all time, Psycholution, on his cross border nomination.

“Such a feat augurs well with our strategic intent, that of making significant inroads into the global arena, as we are convinced that our artists have come of age and are ready to claim a share of the global cake. “While nomination on its own is already akin to victory, we however wish that Lution goes on to win this award, as it shall not just affirm his own prowess but Eswatini’s too as a whole,” said Dube.
The 011 Awards are supported by The City Of Johannesburg (municipality). They form a third of the City Awards Management initiative- the rest include the 012 Awards (Pretoria) and 031 Awards (Durban). 
Winners get a fully sponsored trip which includes a radio tour, meals and performance slots in different venues. Each award has a sponsor and the winner is announced live on stage at the awards ceremony.
 To win, nominees must have a combination of both:
The most votes in their category.
The highest judges score.
