MBABANE – When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Fashionistas have always taken an opportunity to develop accessories from what is going on in the world. It is no different in 2020 as we live in the era of the coronavirus pandemic.

There have been a few instances where the face mask was included from fashion trends showcased in runways all over the world.
In an effort to ease the demand on surgical masks, many stay at home.
Brigadiers have heeded the call of wearing a mask when going to public spaces by getting their sewing kits out to make creative masks.

Organization

Since the spread of the virus around the world, these enthusiasts have taken the opportunity to create and use masks made of different fabric and textures and are now a common feature.
While these homemade masks may be deemed insufficient to keep people from contracting the coronavirus like the surgical ones, perhaps it could still be a solid line of defense to keep other people safe from contracting other germs.

According to the South Morning China Post newspaper , the World Health Organization has advised the general population to use homemade face covering while reserving surgical masks for the general population.

It was also announced in a press briefing by the Minister of Health, Lizzie Nkosi, that the wearing of masks would be compulsory for every liSwati who is not staying at home as government tries to assist the nation in flattening the coronavirus curve.

Speaking to the Entertainment Desk, Nosipho Maphalala said she loved the fashionable facemasks because they were more appealing.
She added that she would encourage the use of these masks. However, people should be informed about their effectiveness compared to the N95 and surgical masks for correct use since they are not disposable.

“These masks can also help if there is a shortage and used as a temporary go to option,” she said.
The World Health Organisation Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) advised the public when and how to use masks.
Before putting on a mask, clean your hands with alcohol-based hand-rub or soap and water.
Cover your mouth and nose with a mask and make sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask.

Healthy

Avoid touching the mask while using it; if you do, clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
Replace the mask with a new one as soon as it is damp and do not re-use single-use masks.

To remove the mask: remove it from behind (do not touch the front of mask); discard it immediately in a closed bin; clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand-rub or soap and water. If you are healthy, you only need to wear a mask if you are taking care of a person with COVID-19.
Wear a mask if you are coughing or sneezing.

Masks are effective only when used in combination with frequent hand-cleaning with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
If you wear a mask, then you must know how to use it and dispose of it properly.
