MAJOR TENDER AT KM III INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
MBABANE - The Eswatini Civil Aviation Authority (ESWACAA) is soliciting proposals for the provision of maintenance services for a baggage handling system (BHS) at King Mswati III International Airport.
A BHS is a type of conveyor system installed in airports that transports checked luggage from ticket counters to areas where the bags can be loaded onto airplanes. A BHS also transports checked baggage coming from airplanes to baggage claims or to an area where the bag can be loaded onto another airplane. According to the tender document, the applicants must possess no less than three years demonstrable experience in the operation and maintenance of BHS. Tender proposals must be accompanied by a receipt of E300 which should be paid at ESWACAA Matsapha Airport Finance Department.
Visit
A compulsory site visit shall be conducted on March 24, 2021 (next Wednesday) at KM III International Airport, terminal building. “All bidding company personnel attending the site visit must carry an identity document in order to be allowed entrance to the airport restricted areas, after a cost free application process. Tender proposals must be enclosed in a sealed envelope,” reads the invitation in part. The baggage handling system for outbound baggage comprises check-in, security screening and flight make-up carousel. The baggage handling system for outbound out-of-gauge comprises check-in, fire/security roller doors and security screening. “King Mswati III International Airport’s objective is to provide a level C terminal level of service (LoS) through a safe, reliable, high quality and uninterrupted Baggage Handling System (BHS)operations to all tenant airlines and their passengers. “In order to accomplish this goal, King Mswati III International Airport expects the successful applicant to periodically maintain and service the BHS to ensure operational reliability as defined in this section and in accordance with industry standards, best commercial practices and assure safe, efficient operation of the system according to the system design operational intent,” reads the tender document.

The applicant’s proposed scope of work should address each objective specifically and describe in detail how the candidate will achieve the object. “King Mswati III International Airport, however, reserves the right to modify specific requirements, based on changed circumstances (such as change in business or technical environments), the proposal selection process, and contract negotiations with applicants selected for negotiations, and to do so with or without issuing a revised RFP (request for proposals),” it was stressed. Meanwhile, the Eswatini Civil Aviation Authority is a ‘Category A’ government parastatal established by the Civil Aviation Authority Act 2009. The ESWACAA administers the day-to-day operations of the airport through the Airports Division. The King Mswati III International Airport is the major airport in the kingdom which serves most international scheduled and unscheduled flights. The airport is located on the east side of the country at Sikhuphe area.
