MBABANE- Business Eswatini (BE) is calling upon businesses around the country to be extra vigilant this coming Easter weekend.

CEO Nathi Dlamini said as Business Eswatini they were literally on tenterhooks about the Easter weekend to the extent that they would not be vehemently adverse to further measures aimed at restricting unnecessary movement of persons during Easter. “We have witnessed first-hand, the disruptions that have been caused to people’s lives and our own; not to mention the adverse impact on the academic calendar which has seen the future of our children compromised forever.

“As everyone will agree, we have to say that we cannot afford any more of these disruptions: They are bad for business which is why we have to all take all the necessary measures to protect ourselves, our co-workers and, of course,  our families,” said Dlamini. The CEO said their fear owed itself much to the fact that the framework by the Ministry of Health entailed a lockdown should cases reach a certain percentage point. He said this could be easily be reached if there would be no strict compliance to the basic prevention measures. “As Business Eswatini, we have seen the effects of lockdowns on businesses and the brutal economic effects it entails.

Protocols

“It is with this in mind that we would like to call upon businesses around the country to be extra vigilant this coming weekend. We cannot afford to ride roughshod over prevention protocols or take shortcuts; nor can we afford to put at risk those who will patronise our establishments. We have to all become ‘our brother’s keeper’ when it comes to this pandemic,” he said. With some people likely criss-cross the country and neighbouring countries either attending Easter worship services or visiting friends and loved ones, BE feels there could be super-spreader events which could easily reverse the good gains the country has made in containing the spread of the virus.  “Equally though, houses of worship, even though they may be outside the purview of Business Eswatini, are frequented by business owners and regular people alike especially during Easter.
