BE CAUTIONS EMASWATI TO BUY LOCAL
MBABANE – Business Eswatini (BE) has cautioned emaSwati to buy local for this festive season.
BE said most businesses in the country do their biggest turnover during the Christmas season. According to the organisation, they say, it was during this particular season that businesses try to make up for bad trading months, which was the main reason why they were encouraging shoppers to spend most of their money in-country in support of all businesses - both big and small.“When we talk about businesses we are not talking exclusively about the well-known big retailers, but we have the street vendors in mind too, as they desperately need all the support they can get from us”, said Nathi Dlamini the CEO of Business Eswatini.
Singled
He singled out the informal sector, as most deserving of shoppers’ share of wallet because, according to him, they were intrinsically part of the country’s social fabric and economic landscape, without which the country would impoverish its economic development agenda. He said this sector was necessary and its contribution in terms of value cannot be disputed. He further said that street vendors, much like the bigger retailers, survived exclusively on the patronage by emaSwati, and this being the case, he said he hoped that shoppers would intentionally choose to spend their money locally, as opposed to crossing the border.
