NEW FACTORY COMING TO PIGG’S PEAK
PIGG’S PEAK – A new textile factory has been commissioned to be built in Pigg’s Peak and construction is set to commence in the current financial year.
This was revealed by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo, who mentioned that once the project is complete the factory will employ 500 people. Khumalo was speaking during the official opening of the Pigg’s Peak Spar and Tops on Wednesday.
The government has been on a drive to build factory shells around the country in a bid to generate more job opportunities.Speaking about the opening of the new Spar outlet in Pigg’s Peak, the minister said this momentous occasion marked a significant milestone in the development and growth of the local economy.
Project
He said the cost amount of this ‘remarkable’ project was estimated at E30 million, a testament to the commitment and investment made by the dedicated individuals involved. Khumalo announced that Spar and Tops have already made a positive impact on the community of Pigg’s Peak. He said through this establishment, they have created numerous employment opportunities. “Currently, a total of 82 full-time employees have been recruited, of which 30 are males and 52 are females,” he said.
Khumalo stated that this inclusive approach not only showcased the government’s commitment to gender equality but also highlighted the importance of diversity in the country’s workforce. Khumalo further highlighted that there were future plans in place that would focus on empowering local businesses, particularly vegetable farmers.
He said the aim was to develop strategic partnerships that would enable these farmers to supply the Spar Supermarket with fresh, locally sourced produce.
