MBABANE – Dupont Security Services, a local youth-owned business became the fairest of them all in the Lubombo regional Entrepreneur of the Year Awards (EYA).

The outstanding youth-owned business award recipient is run by Paul Dupont and has been operating since 2021. It employs approximately 245 emaSwati and uses technology to provide world-class security services. It is based at Nsoko. The awards ceremony was held at the Siteki Hotel on Monday. Speaking to this publication, Dupont thanked the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade, FNB Eswatini, and the Small Enterprises Development Company (SEDCO) for their continued support for small enterprises.

Levels

“This work and support would not have been possible without these entities. We thank them immensely for the opportunity,” he said. When making his remarks at the function, the Lubombo Regional Administrator, Themba Msibi, highlighted the importance of identifying businesses at the grassroots level in order to specifically direct financial aid, especially from funds such as the Rural Development Fund (RDF). He further decried the common requirement that some funders put forward when funding money; that of forming associations and schemes.

“Businesses run by individuals get left behind in the process and that is not good at all for economic development,” he said. According to SEDCO Chief Executive Officer, Khethiwe Mhlanga, they were happy to note that from receiving the least applications for the competition last year, this year the Lubombo Region received the most among all the other regions.
“This is a sign that the region has heard the call that we must be active when it comes to improving our businesses.

Growth

This is a sign that all these young people are hungry to do business,” she mentioned. She reiterated SEDCO’s support for small businesses and mentioned that the aim is always to see them grow and become big corporations. “As we continue with the competition, the Lubombo Region has shown so much growth and that means the region has stepped up to the challenge of improving economic growth,” added Mhlanga.
