GOVERNOR TO GIVE PUBLIC LECTURE AT UNESWA
MBABANE – The Governor of the Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE), Dr Phil Mnisi, will join esteemed professionals from various sectors in a public lecture hosted by the University of Eswatini (UNESWA).Dr Mnisi will be the keynote speaker and his presentation will address the ‘Impact of Financial Frictions on Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Developing Economies’. The lecture is scheduled for tomorrow at the IDE Lecture Theatre, starting at 5pm.Hosted under the auspices of the Growth Lab for Africa, it expected that high-level participants from academia, private and public sectors, as well as civil society, will give insights into understanding some complex economic issues.
The governor will delve into why firm-level productivity growth is stunted in the African continent, yet productivity is the ‘speed limit’ in economic growth. He will further share his thoughts on how Africa can relax financial frictions associated with diminished producer performance.The Growth Lab for Africa was established by the university, designed to contribute meaningfully to the ‘Africa we want’ agenda.According to Dr Samuel Mhlanga, Director of the Growth Lab for Africa, the motivation behind the theme came from their mandate on the advancement of technology and entrepreneurship. We realised that productivity has been declining not only in Africa, but many other countries.

We then sought to find out from key stakeholders what could be the cause of this state of affairs. The governor of the CBE was deemed as the ideal candidate to share on what could be the bearers to funding for people to start businesses, and enhance productivity,” he explained. Over 100 participants are expected to take part in the public lecture, inclusive of captains of industry from different African countries.
