ESWATINI, UK TRADE DOWN 52.9% IN Q1
MBABANE - Total trade in goods and services (exports plus imports) between the United Kingdom (UK) and Eswatini was E187 486 560 (£8 million) at the end of the first quarter (Q1) of 2024.
This reflected a decrease of 52.9 per cent when compared to the end of Q1 of 2023. This is according to the trade and investment factsheet provided by the UK Department for Business and Trade. The stats were covering the 12 months ending June 2024. During the period under review, total UK exports to Eswatini amounted to E23 433 460 (a decrease of 85.7 per cent in current prices, compared to the end of Q1 2023). Of all UK exports to Eswatini in the four quarters to the end of Q1 2024, almost 100 per cent were goods and less than 0.1 per cent were services.
Meanwhile, in the four quarters to the end of Q1 2024, UK’s export of goods to Eswatini decreased by 50 per cent in current prices, compared to the four quarters to the end of Q1 2023 while UK’s export of services to Eswatini decreased by 100 per cent or E117 163 800 (£5 million) in current prices, compared to the four quarters to the end of Q1 2023.
In the four quarters to the end of Q1 2024, total UK imports from Eswatini were E164 001 250 (£7 million)—a decrease of 30 per cent in current prices compared to the four quarters to the end of Q1 2023.Of all UK imports from Eswatini at the end of Q1 2024, E23 431 170 £1 million (14.3 per cent) were goods and E140 587 020 (85.7 per cent) were services.

In the same period, UK imports of goods from Eswatini decreased by 90 per cent in current prices, compared to the four quarters to the end of Q1 2023, while UK’s import of services from Eswatini increased by E140 587 020 in current prices, compared to the four quarters to the end of Q1 2023. This means the UK reported a total trade deficit of E140 587 020 with Eswatini, compared to a trade deficit of E70 359 360 at the end of Q1 2023. At the end of Q1 2024, the UK had a trade in goods balance of less than E23 453120 with Eswatini, compared to a trade in goods deficit of E187 564 960 at the end of Q1 2023. Meanwhile, in the four quarters to the end of Q1 2024, the UK reported a trade in services deficit of E140 687 520 with Eswatini, compared to a trade in services surplus of E117 239 600 at the end of Q1 2023.
