LOBAMBA – Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Trade Manqoba Khumalo says Eswatini is learning from the best in terms of improving ease of doing business.

Khumalo said when drafting the new Companies Bill, he benchmarked with New Zealand, as that country was ranked the best in the ease of doing business. He said New Zealand further assisted the country to get a consultant to assist in drafting the Bill that he was pleading with Members of Parliament to pass it in order to become an Act. He said once the Bill has been passed, it will allow the country to introduce electronic company registration, among other things. He said the system was already in place, just waiting for the Bill to be passed.

He said such will then put the country at the top of countries that are ranked the best in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). Khumalo said following the decision that government took a few years ago to move into e-Government through the introduction of online services to improve service efficiency, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade, through the Registrar of Companies Department, and in conjunction with the Ministry of ICT’s e-government department, introduced online company registration services. He said this responded directly to the World Bank Ease of Doing Business reform of starting a business.
