3 LOCAL COMPANIES BAG E2M NAMBOARD CONTRACTS

MBABANE – At least three local companies have been earmarked for provision of different services to the National Agricultural Marketing Board (NAMBoard) through tenders worth over E2 million.

Maphanga Mitchel Associates has emerged the best evaluated bidder for consultancy services for verification and valuation of NAMBoard fixed assets. The proposed contract price for this tender is E646 760. According to the intention to award tender notice published in the Eswatini Public Procurement Regulatory Agency (ESPPRA), Maphanga Mitchel Associates was contesting for the tender along with Phoenix Property Consultants and G.S. Chiyanda Property Consultants.

Phoenix Property Consultants also passed but was seemingly overpriced as their price as read out was E1 369 798.30. Meanwhile, G.S. Chiyanda Property Consultants was disqualified for revealing financials in technical proposal. Kobla Quashie & Associates emerged the best evaluated bidder for the provision of external audit services with a proposed contract price of E761 328.75. For this tender, Price Waterhouse Coopers came second best with a bid price of El 494 522 while SNG Grant Thornton came third with bid price of E2 321 147.

Equipment

The third company to be set for another NAMBoard tender is Lend Mo for Less. This company is earmarked for the supply and delivery of personal protective equipment (PPE). The proposed contract price for this tender is E665 011.67. Lend Mo for Less was contesting for this tender along with 14 other local companies, whereby some missed out because they were not technically responsive. NAMBoard facilitates markets for farmers in and outside the country and assists these farmers with production, processing, storage, transportation and distribution of the produce the sale of scheduled products.

The government parastatal is enabled by Act No. 13 of 1985 and mandated with the following:

  • To assist farmers with production, processing, storage, transportation and sale of scheduled products.
  • To facilitate access to local and international markets for locally produced scheduled products.
  • To register wholesale distributors, importers and exporters of scheduled products.
  • To advise government on the availability and demand of scheduled products.

NAMBoard has three operational functions, which are the Farmers Support and Development Unit, Encabeni Fresh Produce Market and the Regulatory division. These functions are mandated to develop sustainable farming business among small holder and commercial farmers in the Kingdom of Eswatini, as well as to ensure provision of food, economic security in our communities and a well governed import, export and transitioning system of agricultural produce.
