HIP STAR PSYCHOLUTION DISSES ILLA PENBOY
MBABANE – The hip hop industry has always been one where freedom of speech is encouraged. It is also where artists criticise each other more fearlessly than any other genre.
Swazi hip hop had a taste of this artist banter this past weekend when hip hop artist Psycholution took on fellow artist Illa Penboy labelling him ‘a wack rapper’ going as far as saying ‘Illa on the raps equals nothing but garbage’.
The social media feud was seemingly sparked by one of Illa Penboy’s Facebook posts where he labelled himself Swaziland’s number one rapper, something which apparently did not go down well with Psycholution.
The post received over 90 comments within an hour of it being posted on Saturday and after 48 hours it stood at 330 comments.
The two artists, who both have new albums out in the market, released their material in the same week. Illa Penboy’s ‘Shisa Ntwana’ and PsychoLution’s ‘Disscription’ were both in stores on the same day, with Illa Penboy excitedly posting on his Facebook page that he was the best rapper by far and Swaziland’s number one.

Some of the comments were in defence of Illa Penboy as his fans felt that PsychoLution had used the wrong forum to address the fellow rapper, while others fully supported his comments.
This is not new to the rap game especially internationally, with the most recent feud being between South African hip hop artists Cassper Nyovest and AKA.
The two caused a media frenzy which went on for months with their ongoing verbal attacks on each other via social network Twitter. It is, however, the first time Swazi hip hop artists have exhibited such public disapproval of another’s talents on a social networking site.
Here are the two artists’ respective Facebook posts:
