EZULWINI – Seasoned off-road races cyclist Retha Harding was a rose among the thorns in the torturous 60km Essential Hardware Ezulwini Mountain Bike (MTB) Classic.

Harding joined the close to 10 men who took to the bushy trails to battle it out in the first race for 2017 at Mantenga Cultural Village in Ezulwini on Saturday.  She was eighth overall, clocking 04:56:03 hours. She was relieved to finish the race after getting cold feet at first due to the bad weather.

“It was really tough. At times I felt like screaming and crying. However, the single track towards the end was good.
“I like to challenge myself all the time. I also work towards certain goals. I just had a child,” said the audacious cyclist.

Lesley Foss, who is also known for taking the bull by its horns, opted for the 35km event, alongside the equally forceful Lucinda Bride.
Winner in the male category was youngster Muzi Shabangu with 03:36:33 hours. Sihle Dlamini was a champion in the second longest race. He clocked 02:21:13 hours to celebrate his first gold medal.
