SWAZI DANCERS AUDITION FOR SA’S LION KING
MBABANE - Two Swazi artists have decided to leave the country and go and try their luck to secure a slot in one of the world’s award winning theatre plays, the Lion King.
MJ Boys lead dancer Sithembiso ‘Sthera’ Magagula and Pelepele Dance Group member Nhlanhla Simelane are currently in Johannesburg attending the Lion King auditions.
The auditions, which attracted over 2 000 aspiring actors, started on Monday morning. The two were auditioned on Monday afternoon and even though they were not selected they were pleasantly surprised not to be eliminated as the judges felt they had more to offer.
‘Sthera’ said while others were recalled they were given what he called a ‘lifeline’ in the theatre world where actors and actresses are given a second chance to audition.
Hopefully
“We are both pleased that we will be auditioning once again today and hopefully we will make it. It is still a huge chance to be given a lifeline in such a production,” said Sthera Magagula. He said they were both positive that they will make it through as they believe in themselves.
“We have acted and danced in bigger stages across the globe and I believe the experience we have will make us conquer. I am sure we stand a chance and will make it through and hopefully young Swazi actors and actresses will be inspired to try and also take the profession seriously,” he said.
It is not the first time for Magagula to be in a big cast as he recently went to Botswana where he was among the chorographers of the country’s inauguration celebrations.
