‘HATER’ GETS BACKLASH ON SOCIAL MEDIA
MBABANE – Like Mzansi, social media in Swaziland lost its chill this past weekend as throngs of fans and local music fanatics defended first-time number one artist Eskay following some reckless criticism posted by a relatively unknown artist by the name Pro-Hustler Spare-Wheel.
Eskay, a Swazi artist currently based in South Africa, last week clinched the coveted number one spot on the popular SBIS Top 20 chart show with his blazing single ‘About you’ which features Kaspero a Mpumalanga-bred rapper.
While many listeners of the chart show and voters on its Facebook page congratulated Eskay for finally scoring his first number one song in five years of his flourishing music career, a troll posted a picture snapshotted from Pro-Hustler Spare-Wheel’s timeline where he claimed that Eskay copies other popular artists’ styles in his raps.
“Facts. Eskay akanaso stayela sakhe. Wacale wahlabelisa kwa Kena, Wahlabelisa kwa Ghetto Villa, Wahlabelisa kwa Mp, Wahlabelisa kwa Eimsofly & a lil’bit of Kwesta, I wonder whose (sic) gonna be next, maybe Mellifluous. Kwaaaaah. No beef, only facts,” (Fact, Eskay is a copycat. At first, he mimicked Kena, then Ghetto Villah, then MP, then Eimsofly and to some extent; Kwesta. Wondering who’s next. Perhaps Dr Melliflous. No beef, only facts), read the budding rapper’s status.
However, this did not go down well with the majority of social media users as they reduced both the troll who posted and Spare-Wheel. “Shokutsi lokusebentisa titayela tebantfu kuyamsebentela ngoba naku siyamati nyalo. Wena ke?” (“Perhaps using those styles works just fine given that we now know and support him, unlike you,”), wrote popular social media user, Mpumuzo Dlamini.
