SAKHILE EXPLORES MODELLING!
She is 22-years-of-age but her vision for the future is quite vibrant. A lot of young people grow up wishing they would become models, actors, singers and frontrunners in other art related trades but rarely find the need to also back that vision up with qualifications.
Talent is something no one can strip away from you but Sakhile Simelane is not simply banking on her gift in modelling and compiling fashion looks.
The model revealed to GCWALA that she has approached a mobile company with a proposal and hopes to receive positive feedback about her quest to represent the mobile service provider.
Responding to what sets her apart that would be convincing to the newly established company, she revealed that she is outspoken and a people’s person.
“I am able to relate to people’s individual perspectives and needs. My social media following also is a positive for any company that would affiliate itself with me as I have a great following on the various social media platforms which increase my chances of influence on the masses,” she says.
The Bachelor of Social Science student believes that her future holds a lot of possibilities both in the field of study she is in as well as the taking off of her career in modelling. She is unlike the regular pretty faced woman who believes that her looks can take her far. Her appreciation for steady and gradual growth is impressive.
GCWALA can safely say that in as far as priorities are concerned, she has more than figured out where she is going.
Soon to start her third year at UNISWA the beauty queen turned model says she first decided to explore the modelling industry when she won the Miss UNISWA pageant two years ago, something which validated that she had what it took to capture attention. Although pageantry and modelling have two very different portfolios, Simelane found her fitting in modelling.
Since then she has pushed herself to learn more and practice what has since become her passion.
“I do a lot of photo shoots, maybe about two a month because they help me find my fitting in the type of modelling I want to do.”
The model is unbiased when it comes to fashion as she is open minded to Avant Garde, Haute Couture, Girly and Glamorous as well as laid back and tomboyish looks.
Her blog has helped her be non-specific in the type of looks she goes for as she desires to be relatable to a wider audience than the glamorous diva look that most women tend to go for. GCWALA can rank her fashion choices to be at par with those on ELLE Magazine or even VOGUE.
Speaking about the platform for exposure that she has created on social media, the young lady says that through her blog she has been able to garner support from even followers as far as South Africa and United States of America. She suspects that the reason why she has a better response from international followers is simply the internet data situation and access to smart phones and WIFI in the country, otherwise she is more than confident that Swazis are also inspired by her blog.
Speaking about the importance of the juggle between her studies and pursuing her dream to become a model, “In case you do not get the opportunity to flourish in the arts it is very important to have something that you can fall back on and a formal qualification is necessary which is why for me my studies are a priority at all times. I do not compromise on my education, such that when I am at school I do not take many offers to model because I know what comes first. When I graduate is the time I will go full force on trying to get those editorial campaigns, billboard features, television ads and magazine covers,” she says.
Speaking on her desire to be a brand ambassador for the mobile company the ambitious fashionista says that she has been using her break at school to inform herself on the role of a ambassador as well as prepare where the need arises should she get the opportunity.
