MBABANE – If you though only men could sing the ‘Amadodana’ style music, you better think again.

A group of women has decided to form its own group known as ‘Uvumo Lwamaweseli’.
The group consisting of 11 women is expected to stage its first performance during its fund-raising concert to be held on Saturday, July 29, at Ngculwini Methodist Church.

The group is currently raising funds as it is  planning to record its first album.  Featuring during the fund-raising will be mostly the Amadodana style singing groups. These groups include ‘Amadodana Ase-AME’, ‘Amadodana AseLwandle’, ‘Inhlanganiso Yamadodana’, ‘Amadodana AkuMatsapha’, The Great Amadodana’ and The House of Prayer.  On the night, the group hopes to raise enough money that will see them able to record the album which should be released before the end of the year.  Sitakele Dlamini, the group’s spokesperson said after discovering the talent in them, they decided to form a group.

“We are aware that a number of people thought this style of music is only for men. We decided to take a different tune. The group is eager to record its first album,” she said.

Dlamini said they have also gone to an extent of registering with the Association of Christian Artists in Swaziland (ACASWA).  “We are now ACASWA members and anyone who has the interest of inviting us can do so. We are ready to showcase the talent that we have,” she said. She urged gospel music lovers to attend the fund-raising show, saying the money to be raised on the night will help them a lot in as far as the recording is concerned.
