SBIS TO PLAY 100% LOCAL MUSIC
MBABANE – The saying ‘Local is Lekker’ is finally sinking in within the entertainment scene, and radio is taking the biggest step.
In what will excite Swazi music fans and artists, the MTN SWAMA Music Awards organising committee, has clinched a deal with the national broadcaster Swaziland Broadcasting and Information Services (SBIS), where the latter will play 100 per cent local music on Saturday, August 5, 2017 the day when the awards will be held.
This was revealed by the chairman of the organising committee Melusi ‘Zox’ Dlamini. “We are very excited and extremely grateful to the President of SWAMA Lutfo Dlamini for his unlimited patronage and SBIS for agreeing to our proposal without any qualms whatsoever. In fact, the broadcaster has always taken a leading role in the spearheading of promotion of local music, and this move is historic,” said Dlamini.
Dlamini revealed that both SBIS 1 and SBIS2 (SiSwati and English channels respectively) will play local music throughout the day, to coincide with the awards night later that evening. Meanwhile, Dlamini revealed that SBIS will also cover the awards event, something which will excite listeners who won’t be able to attend the event.
“We are aware that many people would love to attend this event. We are grateful to SBIS for their pledge to cover the event, whereby listeners throughout the country and beyond will be updated on the proceedings. This is really encouraging and ground breaking, as in most cases only soccer matches get live coverage,” said Dlamini.
SBIS Director Martin Dlamini said the stations’ decision to play 100 percent local music as well as well as to cover the MTN SWAMA Music Awards on August 5, augured well with the broadcaster’s mandate; that of promoting local content.
