MANZINI – As the sun rose on a warm Saturday, there was plenty of meat but by the time it went to rest there was no meat at all.

An announcement had to be made to all owners of butcheries to come with their meat as thousands of people still wanted to braai meat together.
This was during the Biggest Braai 2017 held at the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre Park in Manzini.

This year’s braai saw over 7 000 people coming together to braai and hopefully beat the Guinness World Record once again.  Philani Maswati Charity Organisation, which is the host of the Biggest Braai, found itself having to engage butcheries from the surrounding areas to come with meat so it could be sold to the thousands of people who were still interested in braaing.

People started coming in at the venue as early as 7am and by midday, it was already full. Those who had bought tickets were give a braai  pack together with braai stands to use inside the venue. With over 20 companies and thousands of individuals, the biggest draw card seemed to be the free braai stands as most people wanted to take them home.

The ticket fee of E380 covered the braai stand which attendees got to keep, a packet of charcoal, a braai pack and bread rolls.  Most people started braaing just after midday. As the day continued, the organisers ran out of meat.  At that time, there were still people who were interested in the braai.

Seeing the demand for the meat, the event organisers issued an announcement on stage, asking those who owned  butcheries to bring their meat to the venue.
