HMCS TO COMPETE FOR E1M AT MELTING POT FESTIVAL
MBABANE – They are giants in their own right and have won numerous prizes, but this one is by far the most lucrative.
His Majesty’s Correctional Services Choir has been placed with other choral music giants to compete for E1 million prize money. The choir is expected to prove its worth during the Melting Pot Choral Music Festival, to be held in South Africa in the Eastern Cape Province on November 25-26, 2017. Initially the festival was expected to be held this weekend but the organisers decided to postpone it to the end of November. The choir will be competing in a section known as ‘The Giants of the Game’. This is a category where the best choirs in the choral music industry are brought together to compete. In this category the choir will be competing with seven of the best choirs in the Southern African region. In the same competition last year, the choir competed in the top 10 section where they were crowned overall winners, taking home a sum of E250 000. The organisers of the competition felt Correctional Services Choir had proved its prowess and deserved to compete in this category.
The choir has already started preparing for the competition and hopes to come back home with nothing less but the E1 million ultimate prize. The choir’s manager Harry Gumedze confirmed the invitation, saying it was exciting to see the recognition the choir is receiving especially in competitions that are outside the country. He said this was one competition they were taking seriously especially because a lot is expected from them after last year’s performance. “Last year we competed under the Top 10 Choir sections and we were the overall winners. Most of those who saw our performance felt that had we competed in the large category we could have won. We believe it’s this reason why the organisers decided to take us to the giant’s category this year,” he said. Gumedze said they were going to compete with a positive mindset and are convinced of a win. Melting Pot’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Gcisa Mdlulwa highlighted that the festival was one that has grown and they were hoping to see more talent from the choirs.
