MBABANE – Making registration free has   proven to be the perfect tonic for SWAMA.

The Swaziland Art and Music Association (SWAMA) has recorded an impressive 380 artists officially registered for the year. This is barely three months of the new committee led by President Melusi ‘Zox’ Dlamini taking office.

It is the first time in 40 years since the establishment of the association to have so many artists. The highest ever recorded was only 80 artists.
This new information was revealed and confirmed by SWAMA President Melusi ‘Zox’ Dlamini.

The registration of artists commenced last November and was extended to January 31. In that time, the new SWAMA Executive Committee had been making noise and encouraging artists to register.

They also extended their nobility to making registration free, instead of the E150 joining fee.

Dlamini revealed that the team is still updating their system and the numbers of registered artists is actually increasing.
“We are even receiving special requests from artists who missed the deadline and they are insisting that we register them and because we wish to have all artists under our wing, we will be lenient for now,” he said.

Encouraging

Dlamini also said it was encouraging seeing that many artists were coming out of their shells and expressing their keenness in registering with SWAMA.
The first artist to register under SWAMA was ‘Tigi’ hit maker and Swazi golden boy Sands and one of the founding members ever since SWAMA existed is mbaqanga singer Mshikishi.
