SHONGWE & KHUPHUKA 21ST ALBUM GOES GOLD

MBABANE – ‘They are celebrating gold’.  Hardly six months after releasing its 21st album, one of  the  country’s top gospel groups has reached gold status.
Shongwe and Khuphuka Saved Group’s latest album titled ‘Siyabonga Jesu’ has since sold over 15 000 copies.


Songs contained in album include ‘Kuzogcina’, ‘Emakona’ , ‘Kwendzeke Kanjani’, ‘Moses Ngwenya’, ‘Sine Dili’, ‘Emagiya’, ‘Simushaya Engoma’, ‘Juda’, ‘Yebo’, ‘Wangena Umuntu’  and ‘Siyabonga Jesu’. 
Elias Shongwe, the founder and leader of the group said the sales were exciting as he has not yet added the local sales.


“Statistics in the South Africa market have shown that the group has reached gold status after selling more than 15 000 copies,” he said. This is an honour and we are very excited about what we are seeing. It tells us that we have great support,” he said
He further thanked gospel music lovers who have been supporting Shongwe and Khuphuka over the years. He said Swaziland’s statistics on sales will be revealed once the data has been collected, “Who knows after that we may reach platinum,” joked Shongwe.


He said in their previous albums there were hits songs which were loved by most fans, and they tried to do the same in the new album
“In our previous albums we have had a number of tracks that have been a hit and we thank our fans for the support they have given us. We have had hit tracks like ‘Khonkhe Kuhamba Kahle’ and ‘Sojikajika’ which fans liked. The same thing has happened with this album. There is a song titled ‘Amagiya’, which has fans buying the album,” he added.


He urged the public to buy original copies saying this will help them to be able to continue producing more albums.
“We will try and make sure that we produce the best albums and we continue with our journey in the music industry. All that is needed is the public to continue supporting Shongwe and Khuphuka Saved Group,” he said.
Ronnie Dlamini, the Public Relations Officer (PRO)  of  the Association of Christian Artists in Swaziland (ACASWA), congratulated the group. he said it was a great achievement for the group to have such a following.
“We urge gospel music lovers to continue supporting the group. Each time our local groups are recognised in this way, it opens doors for the new generation of artists and encourages them ,” he added.
