MTN BUSHFIRE’S ‘CASH-LESS’ SYSTEM FOR FOOD & DRINKS STALLS ONLY
MBABANE – The new cash-less MTN BUSHFIRE Festival system has raised a lot of questions and concerns, but the festival team has the answers.
Festival goers and vendors having been calling the Times Entertainment Desk concerned about the pros and cons of the cashless system called the RFID. This system which is now used in most big festivals across the globe requires festival attendees to not use cash for purchases within the festival venue stalls.
House on Fire’s Communication Manager Noncedo Dlamini, confirmed that this will be a must for all attending this year’s MTN BUSHFIRE Festival. However, one concern was what will happen to the money leftover in ones wristband? Will local vendors who sell outside the venue make a loss? What of those that have bought stalls already and were not aware of the new payment system?
Dlamini sought to clarify on the above and said unlike the normal tokens that have been used in previous years that one could not transfer back to cash; with this system money back is guaranteed. She stated that if there is any money left over all festival goers had to do was go back to the RFID booth and the system would check how much, and refund that person fully.
“We note that vendors may have been worried but they should not be .Tourists will still have access to cash within the venue and we have decided that the cash-less system will be used for food and beverages stalls which are within the premises of the festival,” she added answering the question that most vendors had.
She further stated that as FNB is one of their sponsors there will definitely be the availability of the FNB ATM and places like the market stalls where handicrafts and other art pieces are sold, will still be using cash as a form of trade exchange.
This news should come as relief to the over 50 vendors who sell different wares outside and inside the House on Fire premises during this annual festival. She said the food and beverages stalls were under House on Fire hence those will be definitely use the RFID system only.
Social media has been abuzz about the new cashless system. While some hailed the safety of it others were worried about the loss of business to local stalls.
