SWAZIBANK SCHOOLS CHORAL KICKS OFF ON A HIGH NOTE
MANZINI – It has started and it started on a high note. This is none other than SwaziBank Schools Choral Music Competition, which saw at least 140 soloists competing during the first day of the competition.
The pupils gathered at St Theresa’s High School last Saturday to showcase their talent in the competition that has been sponsored to the tune of E420 000.
The competition started just after 9am, with all the pupils making sure that they try by all means to convince the adjudicators through their voices.
Adjudicators were four well-known choristers, composers and conductors. These were Buhlobo Nhlabatsi, Nikiwe Khumalo, Lucky Sibande-Songo and Santaisa Viljoen.
The soloists were divided into three sections; being the Elementary, Intermediate and the Champ of Champs section.
In each section there were pupils singing soprano, menzo soprano (alto), tenor and bass.
As the pupils were singing, it was difficult for the adjudicators to come up with the winner, as all the pupils seemed to have prepared well for the competition.
Each section had its own song and in all the sections, the pupils were too good.
From time to time, the adjudicators would ask to be given time to come up with the right scores, as the competition seemed to be too tight.
The competition was so tight such that even the spectators who came in numbers could not tell as to who the winner would be in all the sections.
They patiently waited for the final results as they all wanted to see as to who the best soloists were.
Before the results were released, the adjudicators again took time, as they wanted to make sure the person who wins was deserving of the win.
When the results were released, some of the soloists went home excited, while others were disappointed as they thought they had done enough to convince the judges.
