MBABANE – Music is truly a universal language that connects all people, regardless of genre!

Last Saturday afternoon just after 1pm, about 50 people gathered at Alliance Francaise Mbabane to enjoy an intimate session of live music as they celebrated ‘World Music Day’.  The day is celebrated  in France on June 21.
According to the Director at Alliance Francaise Valerie Munier, the ‘fete de la musique’ is a French event that happens annually in France where people either come together or simply blast loud music from anywhere and celebrate.

Culture

Munier expressed her wishes for this event to become part of the culture in the Kingdom of Eswatini as it is in France.
“We would really like to expand this event to other parts of the country and essentially mix French events with the Eswatini culture,” she said.

For such a celebration of all things music, regardless of genre, it was only fitting to have an eclectic group of artists at the music festival to play a variety of tunes from different parts of the world.
Kicking it off was Spanish guitarist Danandza who played melodic tunes and delivered a stellar rendition of ‘Killing Me Softly’ by the American group, Fugees.
The rest of the day was filled with a wide variety of music ranging from Contemporary Pop to Afro Soul.

Impeccable

Eswatini songstress Khole brought the house down with her impeccable vocals and great delivery of one of her hit songs ‘Skhatsi Sami’ which was her claim to fame.
Moreover, another group in particular that was a hit with music lovers such that an encore was demanded by the audience was Mzwaa & The Natural Selection.
Last but definitely not least, Velemseni, the Kingdom’s very own female guitarist and vocalist was also present to serenade the crowd of music lovers with some jazz and neo soul tunes.
