MBABANE – Bikers say you do not need a therapist if you own a motorcycle, as all your troubles melt away on the open road.

This weekend, motorcycle owners and fans of the sport will be living up to this mantra as they will be celebrating the hobby during a fun filled weekend.
Over 10 000 bikers from South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Mozambique and Eswatini are expected in this year’s Swazi rally. The numbers were confirmed by The Swazi rally co –founder Sonia Paiva.

“We are all set and expect over  10 000 bikers  who all registered and paid online. This is one event that brings fun and entertainment without fail,” said a confident Paiva.
The bikers weekend is expected to commence today at Riders Ranch in  Sidvokodvo, where the set-up is ready for the rally to take place. Fun lovers are expected to pay a sum of E300 at the gate to experience the rally for the whole weekend and gates open at 5pm.

Going back 23 years ago, in 1993, came the birth of Swazi Rally, the first Bikers’ event held at Somhlolo Stadium in Swaziland, which saw about 500 people in attendance. Since then, this has become an annual event which focuses on quality entertainment in Swaziland.

Initially, locals hardly embraced the event as they were not well versed with the biking community. However, looking back today  locals have begun to acknowledge that the Swazi Rally has been attracting mainly  foreigners who thronged the Riders Ranch and as such, the event propelled our national revenue levels and businesses like hotels, lodges, restaurants,  were benefitting tremendously due to this event.
The event has for years now given back to the community through acknowledging the underprivileged by building them houses, giving food, clothing to mention a few.  This has certainly brought so much acclaim to the local people as the event kept growing to greater heights, with a high influx of people from our neighbouring countries and even further.
Locals have finally embraced biking and now understand the importance of the rally and how it benefits the country.
In short bikers have done a lot for the nation as they have formed a number of associations which are doing a lot of charity work in and around the country.
The Swazi Rally will this year come with many prizes to be won as the grand prize is a YamahaMT07 700cc Superbike that cost E120 000, powered by Wesbank who have sponsored this event .
