MTN MEN’S CONFERENCE ADS HIT HOME
MBABANE - MTN Eswatini has jumped onto the Men’s Conference social media frenzy to deliver a series of hilarious adverts that have hit home for the brand during this year’s Valentine’s Day.
This was not by coincidence as Senior Manager Consumer, Meshack Maseko said the brand was working hard to entrench itself into culture, by looking more actively and purposefully at the culture buzzing around them - especially on social media, to use that awareness to inform how they should best position and integrate themselves into the world.
The #MensConference2019 which got more people scrolling their social media timelines and wondering what on earth it was, started trending before this year’s Valentine’s Day and eventually reached its climax on day where men ran on with the notion of having to have ‘attended’ the non existing conference.
Though the #MensConference was fictional, social media was abuzz, with fans sharing memes (humorous images, GIFs, and videos) both as a build-up towards the conference, and fictional activities that took place at the conference apparently held on Valentine’s Day. As a result, women on social media were so concerned about this sudden conference, as they felt left out and were itching to know what it was all about.
Opportunity
Maseko said this was a perfect opportunity for the brand to integrate itself to the world. This also came at a time when the company had just launched its new customer centric campaign dubbed, ‘#HereForYou’. Through its agency, TBWA\Yati, MTN came up with a series of hilarious ads that won the hearts of its customers on Valentine’s Day.
For the concerned ladies, MTN came up with an ad, which had a headline copy that read, ‘Is Bae off the Men’s Conference? Get MTN Data Bundles and Stream your favourite show.’ Men who couldn’t make it to the conference were also not left out; they were, invited to catch all the action from wherever they were using MTN Wow Bundles.
