EU AMBASSADOR, MINISTER ‘MADZE’ JOIN HEADS FOR ARTS
MBABANE - Is it the start of brighter beginnings for the arts fraternity in the country?
This question comes after the great meet between EU Ambassador to Eswatini Esmeralda Hernandez Aragones and Minister of Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga, who was appointed to the position late year.
EU is an acronym for European Union.
The first official meeting between the two heads of entities, which are known to support arts in the country, happened yesterday at the Ministry’s offices in Mbabane.
In the meeting, the minister and ambassador were joined by Principal Secretary Prince Mlayeto, Under Secretary Nhlanhla Motsa and Youth Enterprise Revolving Fund (YERF) CEO Bhekizwe Maziya.
Met
The two met briefly in the morning and the aim of the meeting was to formally introduce the Ambassador to the Honourable Minister.
Also, the meeting was meant for sharing ideas on a range of issues involving the youth as well as arts and culture.
This meeting was coherent with Minister ‘Madze’s’ speech, which he delivered last week at the first Arts Summit where he said the government was in full support of the arts fraternity in the country.
“I am pleased to have met the EU Ambassador Her Excellency Esmeralda Hernandez Aragones. The European Union is an important partner to our country and we hope that our discussions will be the first of many that will lead to fruitful results,” said Bulunga.
However, no firm ideas were laid on how to improve the arts industry as this meeting was the first of many to come.
In an exclusive interview with the EU ambassador, she said the EU was promoting art and culture in Eswatini.
Aragones also said there were some local artists who were benefiting from the EUnited Arts of Swaziland project which the EU implemented by Minerva.
These benefits included trainings and performances in EUnited Arts of Swaziland festivals which were hosted by the EU since last June.
