MATSAPHA – Jordy Shiba sashayed his way into people’s hearts with stellar performances that saw him winning the Let’s dance Eswatini competition.

The Basketball player and MTN employee was in-it-to-win-it with sleek moves, passionate energy and close to perfect delivery of the cha cha and Argentine tango dances. The sportsperson was further boosted by the amazing professional dancer and his partner Phumelele, who was a marvel to watch during the competition.

His efforts saw him walking away with a specially designed trophy that was sponsored by Ngwenya Glass. The abstract art piece was presented to both Shiba and his emotional partner. Phumelele could not hold back tears of joy after the duo was announced as eventual winners.

The couple had a big audience during the night and they gave them a great show with their showcase.
“Being part of this competition was fun. It was challenging but worth it. I was here to enjoy myself and I am glad I ended up winning the top title. Dancing is also a sport; it is a sport that I enjoyed being part of.  Thank (you to) everyone who voted for me,” Shiba said.

His partner, Phumelele, thanked the organisers, judges and audience for appreciating her talent. She further thanked God for blessing her with the talent of dancing. She was overcome by emotions due to winning the first prize.

Comedian Mdura, whose real name is Mduduzi Dlamini, was the most voted for as he amassed a total of 44 votes from the judges and 250 votes from the audience. Jordy Shiba came second with 43 votes and above 200 from the audience.

Mdura thrilled when he delivered the paso doble dance while his Kwaito dance was also well received. John Pires was described as a gentleman and hard worker after putting in the energy in his waltz and contemporary dances. “We are very happy with the way the event took place. Thanks to Esibayeni Lodge for a great venue and set-up. It was sold out and the couples worked hard on preparing for the show. We hope that people have seen that everyone can dance and are inspired to join the dance schools that exist around the country,” the organiser, Suzan Esteves, said.

She further congratulated Shiba and thanked all sponsors for making the event possible. The sponsors included Apollo Printers, Ngwenya Glass, Sport House, Sky World Tours, House on Fire and Mananga College.  The judging panel included House on Fire’s Jiggs Thorne, dancer Sithembiso ‘Toothless’ Magagula and Mpho from South Africa.
