MBABANE – Style, business and success!

These were the three pillars of life which were discussed by the highly successful inaugural ‘Lioness Lean In event in Eswatini’ at Royal Villas in Ezulwini last Thursday.
Brought to the country by Standard Bank in partnership with Lionesses of Africa the event brought under one roof leading business women, C-suite executives in corporate Eswatini, SMME founders and owners, innovators and entrepreneurs of purpose-driven enterprises to support each other, share ideas and experiences as they lead game changing businesses.

Leading actress, entrepreneur and social activist Hlubi Mboya-Arnold directed proceedings and used the opportunity to share pearls of wisdom on the issues that matter most to women, including leadership, breaking the ceiling in the corporate space, business, finance, mentoring, health, small business and entrepreneurship, education, technology, energy, work/life balance, branding, social media marketing and more. Lionesses of Africa Public Benefit Corporation is a social enterprise working to advance Africa’s women entrepreneurs, by building and delivering entrepreneur development mentoring programmes, business tools, digital media channels, community platforms, networking events and information resources.

The organisation has over 750 000 users across 54 African countries and also reaches tens of thousands of users in the Diaspora in Europe and North America. It is on target to reach the goal of empowering one million women entrepreneurs across Africa. Among the renowned speakers was Busisiwe Ndlela, who gave an inspiring narrative of how she quit a cushy job as an executive of a state owned company to start her own business in the dog-eat-dog, male dominated petroleum sector. She is the Managing Director of BBX which runs one of the most iconic fuel stations in the country.

“I took the giant leap to become an entrepreneur and to stake my claim in the business world after I realised that the effort and time invested in working for somebody else did not justify the rewards at the end of the day,” said Ndlela. Senator Sylvia Mthethwa, who is the founder and Managing Director of Progress Stationery related how she rose from the ashes of a poverty stricken family to own one of the most successful businesses in the country.
