The entertainment industry keeps on growing and unearthing new talent that promises a brighter future.

Wendy Melokuhle Dlamini is ready to take the entertainment industry by storm, as she is one of the new hip and happening MC’s.
She takes GCWALA through her world of music in the male dominated industry.

Who is Wendy?

Wendy is a woman of integrity, a woman of power, a woman who knows she’s terrifying and strange yet so beautiful. She is a person with an amazing sense of humour, who celebrates in the presence of happy people and finds comfort in the face of the sad. I can safely add that she is fearless and loyal to herself.

You are a multitalented young person, what do you like doing the most?

Well, yes, I believe God richly blessed me with a few talents of which some I am yet to explore. One of my best, is being able to interact with a crowd. I’ve always been told that I talk a lot and that I speak proper English with so much confidence from my secondary level at Elangeni High before I went to St Mark’s, I’d see my English Teachers grooming me to go for debate sessions but I’d shy away because I was so young at that time and wasn’t bold enough to face a group of people not to mention a crowd. But now it’s another story and talking with people is what I like the most.

How did you venture into being an MC?
Well, venturing into this field wasn’t easy because I was still shy. I hadn’t discovered the fire that is ignited in me that everyone else in my circles was seeing. I had a friend by the name of Mbongiseni popularly known as Fish. He owns an entertainment stable by the name of Fish Entertainment. He saw the potential in me and was willing to take me places and explore that in a low-key way though. He just organised a show, invited me in a friendly manner then boom, he gave me the mic and told me I would be the MC for the day, the rest was history and I pulled through like a rock star, LOL.

How was your first experience as an MC?
My first experience was so scary because I was sceptical, I had doubts, I didn’t even know what my first word was going to be because I had never done such and I wasn’t prepared. But my passion for speaking and interacting started ranging, I could hear voices in my head and my heart saying you were born to speak up and  no matter what you can do this and I shut the place down like it never mattered of course with support from people that actually believed  in me.

What was the most embarrassing moment as an MC?
It was in Pretoria last year at Soshanguve on a birthday party where I was given the MC duties by Vertice while Dj Sumbody was on the decks.Well, first of all I was getting a bit hot and sweaty so I my makeup was starting to have issues. Just as I was  trying to get my face wiped off the sweat I had anticipated that I turned the mic off when I did not and I was there whispering to a friend that I want to go poop in the toilet. The mic was still on my hand and most people heard except for me and the friend that I was with.

What are three songs that you like?
l     Mobi Dixon featuring Something Sowetho-Abantu
l     Tipcee featuring Babes wodumo Dj Tira and Mampintja-Umcimbi
l     Sun El musician  featuring  Simmy And Lelo Kamau-Sonin

Where do you see yourself in six years?
Well I see myself done with my education and becoming an independent hard working woman who will want to explore more and travel the world to see beautiful places and meet different people.

Do you see any future for female MC’s in the country?
I do see a future for them, because if they have the courage and confidence to stand a crowd and say something that will motivate or keep people on their feet; they can outshine the male dominated industry.

Do you value education and why?
I value education with every gut in me because of a lot of reasons. First being that I want to live a happy and stable life plus leading by example to all young people especially in the entertainment industry. Besides, talent without education is like waiting for a bus in a train station.

What advice would you give to young people about the entertainment industry?
I would urge them to be consistent to their passion and as well be patient, for I believe great things take time and that big things start small. For every opportunity that presents itself, they should grasp it with both hands.

Name four things you can’t leave without?
My phone, I really cannot, secondly it would have to be my power bank, LOL. My phone needs to be charged; thirdly it would have to be a food and lastly my family and friends I’d die.

What keeps you motivated?
My family and my small circle of friends Skhumbuzo and Khetselo.I spend most of my time with these two and they have inspired, motivated and supported me and most importantly they have been there for me ever since.
