MATSE HOSTS SUCCESSFUL GOSPEL SHOW
MANZINI – It seems Nduduzo Matse was prophetic when he recorded the song ‘When Jesus says yes, nobody can say no’.
This follows the success of his major gospel show on Saturday night despite a number of challenges that included rain and sound system glitches.
The challenges did little to dampen the spirits of the section of the crowd as they remained on the ground near the stage and loudly sang popular songs of the artists who were on the line-up. Even walking outside the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre in Manzini, the loyal gospel music lovers could be clearly heard from inside the main arena, singing their lungs and cheering on the performances on stage.
The stage was full of colourful local and international stars including Sipho Makhabane, Thinah Zungu, Takie Ndou, Sipho Ngwenya, Matse, Thobekile, Bholoja, Sands, Linda Dlamini and Frans Dlamini. The show was not all about gospel music genre as afro soul stars in Sands and Bholoja thrilled with their soothing sounds.
Hundreds of people had showed up for the second edition annual ‘Mother of all gospel shows’, and despite the rain, the main arena was full of lively gospel music lovers who had come to hear musicians take the stage to deliver uplifting performances.
Funfair
When the music concert kicked off at around 8pm, following a music workshop the previous day and a kids funfair during the day, Siphiwo Ndlangamandla, Bhelekazi Shabangu and Mcolisi Mhlanga had the crowd eating from the palms of their hands as opening acts.
The early hours of the night were also set alight by blazing performances from Banele Dlamini, Lungelo Matse and PD Manana. Banele had everyone dancing when she sang her popular hit song ‘Ngujesu Osincobelayo’ and Matse maintained the high tempo with his most loved song ‘Siphila Kamnandzi’.
Matse performed over three songs before handing the mic to legendary gospel artist Frans Dlamini, who had Minister of Tourism and Environmental Authority Moses Vilakati, Bishop Nash Shongwe and Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) CEO Stanley Dlamini, dancing up a storm in the VVIP section.
Frans took the crowd back to his yesteryears when he sang ‘Yeka lomusa’ and followed it up with ‘Yala nami nkosi’ before singing the crowd’s favourite – ‘Iphi thikithi Lakho’, much to the excitement of the crowd.
Poured
It was during the legendary artist’s performance where the rains poured heavily, which led to the sound system experiencing technical glitches. The rains further disturbed rising star Lobukhosi Makhubu’s live recording but the female artist persevered with her songs ‘Nkosi Jesu’, ‘Uzophumelela’ and ‘Ikhwezi lokusasa’ being among those which were well received by the crowd.
The singer had two sets where she performed over 10 songs and stunned in a stylish African-inspired outfit. She was later joined by Nduduzo Matse and they thrilled the cheering fans.
