MATSAPHA – Durban-based Gqom sensation Sparks Bantwana introduced himself with energy and flair to fun lovers who filled the Deja Vu Cocktail Lounge.

While wearing what looked like a bullet proof vest, white T-shirt and pants, the ‘Durbanite’ hit the stage just after 2am in the early hours of Saturday morning and showed his skills behind the decks before thrilling the revellers with an energetic performance while singing and dancing up a storm.
The lanky musician wasted no time as he announced his arrival with the gqom hit song ‘Olala lapho’ before sending the audience to wild cheers with the song ‘Sohamba ngo7’.

The artist was backed up by two male dancers and they were in their element as they received resounding rounds of applause from the crowd and each dance move was met with loud cheers. Sparks Bantwana also did a showcase on the dance floor as he introduced his trademark dance move known as ‘360 degrees vosho’ where he went down, twisted and turned in a exciting manner, much to the excitement of the audience.

His popular song ‘Qolo lami’, which features DJ Sox, was the highlight of the night as the artist had to perform it three times due to popular demand from the excited patrons who danced the night away and sang along to most of the songs.

The gqom maestro called his kind of music ‘Kwaitrap’ as he said it was new and different.
“I was overwhelmed by the great response. The crowd was singing along to all my songs, which proved that they were my true fans-they knew and understood my music. I truly had a great time performing for them. I am pushing the new song ‘Qolo lami’ and I was amazed it is already popular here,” Sparks Bantwana said after his performance.
