‘LET US PLAY OUR ROLE AS FATHERS’
Behind the rap, lights, cameras and fame is a man who holds family values deeply!
South African rapper Kwesta, has, many times, embraced the country in making appearances every year. He also did so by even wearing the Eswatini traditional regalia during his traditional wedding.
Kwesta is a father and a husband and he takes that very seriously.
Being Father’s Day today, STYLE decided to celebrate it with the man of the moment and he revealed his love for family and his daughter.
“Today serves as a reminder that we have brought beautiful souls to this world and we need to play our roles as fathers and be there for our children. Not that only, but be there for their mothers,” said the ‘Ngud’ hit maker.
He went on to advise fathers to be the best they can be. Not only did he disclose his love for family values, he also went on to express his love for Eswatini.
“I love the Kingdom of Eswatini so much, words cannot explain it. The country has a great vibe and the people are so kind, like Toxik, hence our relationship.
“My mother is from Eswatini and that should say a lot about my love for the country.”
The ‘Spirit’ hit maker applauded theb country’s entertainment scenery for its growth. “I have since noticed that the events there are getting bigger each time I come to perform. It is just bliss,” he said.
Speaking about his choice of regalia during his wedding, he said he is half liSwati and half South African.
“My choice was because of my roots. That’s it. I cannot deny that I have Eswatini blood flowing in me.”
On June 29, he will be performing at the Epic Gig Second Edition and he revealed that he could not wait to be reunited with his Eswatini fans.
“I promise nothing but an epic performance there. Let me reveal that I will also perform my new song ‘Khethile Khethile’ for the frst time in Eswatini.”
Senzo Mfundo Vilakazi, born August 11, 1988, better known by his stage name Kwesta, is a South African rapper and songwriter.
He was born in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng. He is currently signed to his own Independent and media company known as Rap Lyf with co-founder Kid X. His third studio album DaKAR II was released on February 26, 2016. His latest song is called ‘Khethile’, the music video depicts him getting married.
In fact, he is married.
Kwesta attended Phumulani Secondary School in Katlehong for three years, and later Alafang High School.
He took an interest in poetry during his high school years and received positive feedback and encouragement from fellow students and teachers.
In 2003, Kwesta, then known as Quest, and some friends, formed a group called ‘Ghetto Fellaz’, which became known as ‘The Juvenylz’ with an additional member.
His crew hoped to be discovered and signed, but this did not happen. Kwesta dropped out of high school at age 16 to pursue his music career full-time.
He recorded his first demo in his home studio.
This demo caught the attention of Africa’s Most Southern Record Company (AMS), which eventually allowed him to use their recording facilities. Kwesta, still a teenager, convinced his mother to give him taxi fare necessary to get to Buttabing Entertainment’s offices. This meeting resulted in his being added to Buttabing Entertainment’s roster, co-owned by founding members Shugasmakx and Slikour.
