OVER 9 000 AT ESWATINI BIGGEST BRAAI

MANZINI – The Eswatini Biggest Braai has grown bigger!

Numbers speak millions as they did with the warmly embraced Eswatini Biggest Braai, which was packed with over 9 000 people who had flocked the Mavuso Exhibition and Trade Centre in Manzini on Sunday. The annual event saw gospel music lovers, revellers and different companies gathering in the venue to braai meat while being spoiled to impeccable music, dances, artists’ performances and comedy.  The day kicked off at noon where people started braaing their meat and savouring the day filled with smoke, literally. There were over 40 gazebos which were enacted with each symbolising a different brand. Each person from the companies wore uniform so to pride themselves with their brand.

The companies which supported this year’s Eswatini Biggest Braai ranged from different sectors which included banks, cellular network providers, insurance companies, restaurants, hotels, branding companies, the media, hospitals. After 2pm, the entertainment side of the show, which is growing each year, started picking up steam. The Dumako Brothers were one of the first artists who performed and they were followed by Cleopatra, who sang impeccable country music. She was followed by upcoming afro artist Thembeka, whose set was calming and serene. An artist of note on the day was gospel musician Phathwakahle, who set the tone for the night with her usual feisty performance. Upon entering the stage after 7pm, the crowd flocked to the stage where they watched her dance and sing. Her signature songs ‘Sekonakele’ and ‘Ingadlangadla’ made many dance.

Also, gospel musician Linda Dlamini proved that gospel stars cannot be deterred with his performance which was fun and also spiritual. He sang his viral song ‘Lona Ngumnyaka Wetfu’, which made many speak in tongues. South African kwaito duo Alaska got on stage just after 12.30pm and they showcased their pantsula side by being clad in checked dungarees and Converse All Stars which are known to symbolise the ghetto. They sang their legendary tracks ‘Accuse’, ‘Zimbiri’ and others which made many reminisce about the good old days.
South African vocalist Mlindo the Vocalist was the most anticipated artists and he performed after 2am. Because of the excitement from his fans, the Royal Eswatini Police Service officers tightened security and kept on guard during his performance.
