MISS, MR ALBINISM POSTPONED AGAIN
MBABANE - Finances might cost the pageant.
The first ever Miss and Mr Albinism pageant has been postponed again due to financial issues. This was shared by the President of the Swaziland Association of Persons with Albinism (SAPA), Philemon Gama, in an interview with this publication yesterday.
Postponed
The pageant has been postponed twice; the first reason was because the grand finale, which was to be held in Zimbabwe on December 7, 2019 was postponed as there were a few countries that joined the programme. “We decided to push the event again as we are having financial issues. We are pleading with the public to support this pageantry,” he said. Gama shared that they had planned to host the event with the support of the public in November. “Dates will soon be shared but we were hoping for November as the grand finale will be in December,” Gama said.
Contestants
He further told the Entertainment Desk that they already have contestants which are 10 males and females. “They have already started their training and we will soon share the contestants.
“We are grateful for those who have come forth as sponsors but we are urging more entities to partner with us for a good cause,” he said. The pageantry was launched a few months ago with the aim of educating emaSwati on the myths and misconceptions associated with people with albinism and to also eradicate the bullying and isolation that they go through in their daily lives.
Beauty
“This pageant is not only about beauty, but it is also a way of advocating for people with albinism with the goal to also boost their self-esteem,” explained Gama.
