MJAY JAKALAZ SCOOPS ANOTHER SA AWARD
MBABANE – For kwaito star Mjay Jakalaz, it all started with his hit song ‘Gxabhashe’.
After his hit song ‘Gxabhashe’, Eswatini-born kwaito-rap artist Sabelo ‘Mjay Jakalaz’ Mabuza collaborated with South African renowned rapper Vavo Vogue in producing ‘Cheese and Polony’ and other projects which landed him ‘Aspiring Artist of the Year’ at the Ekurhuleni Music Awards, in South Africa. This comes over a year after he won ‘Best Video’ award at the Springs Hip Hop Awards.
Explained
The ‘Gxabhashe’ hit maker who grew up in Fonteyn, Mbabane, explained that he was chosen among hundreds of artists which the town has. Ekurhuleni has a population of 3 178 million people. Mjay Jakalaz confirmed his recent win, saying it was an honour for him to be recognised in such a big municipality. “I appreciate the Ekurhuleni Municipality and South African Arts and Culture for spotting and awarding me,” said the artist. He said his aim now was to get a SAMA Award. SAMA is the acronym for South African Music Awards.
Pipeline
Currently, the kwaito star has major projects in the pipeline, which will blow the minds of many once officially revealed. “I am still climbing the ladder to success. People should watch this space.” This achievement is becoming a norm in Mjay Jakalaz’s life as he has also made it to international music channels in South Africa, and has shared the stage with big names like Kwesta, Sun El Musician and others. Mjay Jakalaz said he was overjoyed by the award. The kwaito star is currently based in South Africa because his father is from Tsakane in Ekurhuleni.
He went to Hermann Gmeiner High School and furthered his studies at Springs College.
