MBABANE - Emotions were evoked!

This was at the ‘Daughter of the Soil’ show, which was held at Eswatini Theatre Club in Mbabane on Saturday night where the actors in the play gave a splendid performance. This, as Eswatini renowned theatre actress Setsabile Masina, who was acting as Nkanyiso, finds herself in a ditch after leaving home to seek a job in the city. Nkanyiso left her grandmother Gogo Tsabedze, to chase her dreams and make money in the city. While in the city, she stays with her aunt who is engaged in promiscuous activities so to make ends meet.

Vulnerable

Nkanyiso, in her vulnerable state, meets Machocolate, a casanova among the ladies. Luring her with money, the man takes her ‘flower’ and ditched her while chasing other women. While she is pursuing him, he gets abusive and this is when Nkanyiso takes her bags and heads back home to her grandmother. In the middle of the play, Beko the Storyteller, real name Nontobeko Dlamini, the host, recited her poems from the EP titled ‘Strong as Black Coffee’. The poems in the EP (Extended Play), mainly speak of the strength of a woman and what they go through in society.

Teaming up to make the play look beautiful were dancer Velile Dube of Kids in Motion and Toothless Da Dancer, Musa the Poet, Khole, Tindzaba Temdzabu and others. The main actors in the play were Setsabile Masina, Nqaba Tsela, Mkhosie Masuku, Baphetsile Dlamini, Nokuphiwa Lindelwa Mamba, Mthulisi ‘2 Pac’ Mamba, Nkululeko Ngwenya and Make Ngobese. In her remarks, Beko The Storyteller appreciated everyone who made it to the show. “Theatre is my love and this place is my second home,” she said.
